If a the words of certain producer in Telugu Film Industry is to be believed at least two movies of big stars, and two movies by a big director last year were funded by the now dead factionist Maddela Cheruvu Suri. Though he did not give names he left little to imagination that the movies he was referring to were Khaleja and Komaram Puli. And the director he was referring to was Ram Gopal Varma which he openly mentioned RGV’s name in the TV Channel program and said that RGV singlehandedly introduced mafia into Tollywood and made two movies in quick succession – Rakta Charitra I and II.
He also said easy money from questionable sources has ruined Telugu Film Industry (Tollywood) completely and questioned the wisdom of spending Rs. 30 crores and above on an industry which just did not generate that kind of revenues for any hero. He pointed out the number of distribution offices and theatres had witnessed a sharp drop all along coastal and Rayalaseema regions and said that if this trend continues a further drop can be expected. Pointing out to lavish sets, remunerations in the industry he squarely blamed ill-informed producers for the extravagant production standards that have become the norm today.
